Mission Statement
Our mission at Fernwood Academy is to encourage the overall development of our students’ intellectual, social, physical, and emotional health. We strive to maintain rigorous academic standards in a traditional classroom environment, fostering critical thinking, analytical, and discussion skills. By maintaining small class sizes, we provide one-on-one attention to meet the individual needs of each student.
Belief Statements
Governed by our mission, Fernwood Academy has a core set of beliefs which drive the effort and passion we instill.
We believe:
All students are capable of learning material that is stimulating and applicable to them.
Each student is responsible for her own actions and is the key to her own success.
Student learning is enhanced and internalized through experiential techniques, field trips, and hands-on learning activities.
Student learning is affected by their emotional state, therefore a stable, supportive and emotionally safe academic environment is provided to enhance student learning.
Academic and emotional needs of students are best met through regular, interdisciplinary staff meetings that review problems, goals and needs of all students.
All students will require foundational academic skills including organization and prioritization, regardless of the student’s academic or professional goals.
